Planning Ahead (Hobby Resolutions 19)

As it is the tradition, we begin the new year with optimistic resolutions (that we forget about in February).

There is a Spanish blog, ¡Cargad!, where Namarie each year sets a set of goals and tracks his advances monthly. While I like it, my hobby goals change a lot during the year to follow such a tight plan.

So I plan to copy the format, but with a set of looser goals. Each month I’ll track not only the advances, but also if my plan has changed.

With that in mind, my main goal is to paint 100 miniatures (models or scenery) in 2019. You can’t get more open than that.

One of the downsides of playing so many games is that you have a massive backlog of models to build and paint and you’re always looking for ways to cut corners and do more in less time. So you keep pushing aside those models that you’d want to spend more time on. Because you could paint a whole unit in the time it takes you to paint one of those models.

In my case, those models are from Malifaux and Kingdom Death: Monster. I want to paint at least 20 minis from those ranges. At least 5 from each. I’m most likely to paint Malifaux models, so I don’t want this goal to be 20 from Malifaux and 0 from KD:M.

My next goal is a Fantasy 2000 point army for Kings of War or Age of Sigmar (or a 50 point one for A Song of Ice and Fire, for example). Something for a “big” fantasy game.

My main focus now is a League of Rhordia army for KoW. Halflings, yay!

I’d also like to paint a 2000 point sci-fy army. I’m thinking Warhammer 40,000. But it could also be Fallen Frontiers or Warpath, for example.

Mainly, I’m thinking about getting into the Warhammer 40k Conquest collection, which starts this month here. And having a small weekly goal to paint could be fun and easy.

I’d also like to paint the core of a boardgame. The list of candidates here is gigantic. But I was thinking about one of those GW boardgames, which I have a few. If only because the minis could also count towards the 40k army goal.

A new game I got into, or will once my pledge arrives, is The Other Side. As a henchman for Malifaux, if I’m going to demo the game I’d like to do it with painted armies. So I’d like to paint a 2 commander Abyssinian army.

There are a couple of old games I like, but keep pushing aside because I have more pressing comitements. And I’d like to change that. So I’d like to paint 2 units for Void 1.1 and a 10 models for Anima Tactics.

Regarding scenery, I’d like to paint a couple of tables worht of scenery for Malifaux. Which I could also use for The Other Side and plenty of other games. But as a henchman, having more scenery for your events always comes handy.

So here’s my very ambitious whislist. Again, the main goal is to paint 100 models. The others are kind of a bonus/guideline. But I wanted to include them to keep track and see which things make the list every year but never get done and reevalute my priorities if so.
