Ironside Orcs from Polar Fox Miniatures

Polar Fox is a new miniature company from Siberia. Their first release is a very complete Orcs & Goblins range in 10mm. I bought a few of their packs to test their quality and scale.

If you’re a late comer to a dead miniature game, like I am to Warmaster, getting the miniatures you need it’s not always easy. While there are a few companies that produce 10mm Orc miniatures, I’ve been having trouble finding war machines and orc boar riders, for example.

Polar Fox has a very complete range of greenskins in a style really close to Games Workshop’s, that covers all of the options for a Warmaster Orcs & Goblins army.

It seemed like a really good alternative, but there was a bit in the About/Terms page that worried me a little: “If you received an order and found out something you can’t live with then please contact me directly and I hope we will find reasonable solution together. Don’t expect ‘GW’ quality at least for the start“.

Being a one-man operation, they state that they don’t have any items in stock, they’re cast to order. Anyway, I ordered a few of their packs to test both the quality of their casting and the scale and got my package in less than 20 days. And it came with a bonus pack of some funny goblin musicians!

I ordered a pack of Ironside Orcs (Black Orcs) and a few war machines, they all come with bases. The Ironside Orc pack comes with six strips, one of them with command, to make a whole unit of 3 stands. According to the page, it comes with a random command strip (from 2) and a random banner (from 3), but I got 2 banner choices in my pack.

Additionally, for 2€ you can add a big bad mean Orc Warboss to the Ironsides (shown in the header image). It’s a really cool miniature, perfect for your army general. It’s stomping a shield and has a human head on its hand.

I’ve found the casting quality to be good. As far as I can tell, there’s no detail lost from sculpt to cast and the detail is nice. Raw metal on photo makes it a little hard to perceive the details. Once I’ve painted them I’ll post some pictures to better showcase the miniatures, but my first impression is very good and I plan on ordering some more minis in the future.

If you have an original Warmaster army and want to add some more units, Polar Fox offers the closest match in style in the market to the original Warmaster miniatures that I’m aware of.

I’ll close this post with some comparison photos of the Polar Fox orcs with the other manufacturers I have. Bear in mind that they’re supposed to be Black Orcs, so I don’t know if they’re slightly taller than their regular orcs or if all their orcs have the same size. I’ll be comparing them to some orcs from Copplestone Castings and Magister Millitum and also to the Pendraken goblins, which I found too big to use as goblins but of a similar size to the Copplestone orcs.

As a bonus, there’s also a couple of comparisons between the Pendraken and Magister Millitum goblins and some Polar Fox goblins from the artillery packs.
